These days high school students have so many required classes and tests to take before they can graduate that it is ridiculous. This does not leave them much room for elective classes of their choice and as often as they would like. As an art teacher, I am constantly looking for more time and more opportunities to encourage my students to make art. In order to provide a time and space for creative minds to think and play, I run a non-profit after-school club. During the Art Club meetings, students spend at least two hours once a week after school making quality art for fun. In order to keep our membership dues a low price, we try to make as much of our stuff as we can, like our T-shirts.
Screen printing provides my art club students with an opportunity to learn a trade that can lead to a career one day while also keeping our T-Shirt costs low. So I teach the Art Club members how to screen print the same way professional companies do.
When you screen print, the most important part is allowing the ink to dry properly and set into the shirt. A flash dryer is a machine needed for this ink drying process. We currently have to let the T-shirts dry in the sun ( and hope for a sunny day when we screen print) and this process takes forever, it also does not yield as good of results. Sometimes the ink washes out because it did not set properly. So it will be awesome to have the machine we need!
