The best way to learn what science is truly about is to study it hands-on! A field trip to the Biosphere 2 will allow our students to do just that! During the field trip students will not only learn about the history of the Biosphere 2 and the scientists who lived there but also about the process of inquiry as an ongoing cycle. Students will get the opportunity to tour the once air tight Biosphere that was intended to replicate our own earth's biosphere. During the tour they will learn about the different biomes enclosed inside the Biosphere 2 and their importance to the scientists that lived there and the scientists that work there today.
Students will work with scientists in small groups to analyze ocean water samples and study the affects of pollution on a local, regional, and global scale! The experience is designed to be immersive, educational, and fun! The hope of this trip is to increase a growing interest in science by allowing them to see scientists in various fields of study at work while simultaneously learning about the impact of their own ecological footprint.
