I have requested the books Interrupting Chicken, Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon, Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten, Stand in My Shoes, Kindness Starts with You, My Mouth is a Volcano and A Bad case of Tattle Tongue as I believe these books teach valuable social/emotional lessons while encouraging confidence and strength, which is of utmost importance to me in my classroom in preparing these students by providing social tools for future success. Being only a second year kindergarten teacher I am constantly looking, learning, borrowing and taking note of things I would like to provide and have available for my students so I may offer them experiences that aid in gaining cognitive, social and emotional skills necessary for a happy and successful life. I feel a great sense of responsibility being their very first school teacher. I am always considering ways in which I can prepare them to conquer the world and reach for the stars! I know right now my best teaching opportunities are when I am able to hold little my little learner's attention best. This happens while storytelling, reading books and at the rug discussions. I have also requested the Learn to Write with Mentor Texts which provides materials that will help me be explicit as I instruct and teach the 3 types of required writing for the kindergarten core curriculum. Teaching a kindergartener to write can be challenging and I feel this program will give me more ammunition to accomplish this otherwise difficult task. The Flip and Read Sight Words program I requested will enhance the ability to be able to write and recognize these sight words as they are able to increase their vocabulary, reading, writing and spelling through daily practice with this program. I will be using this as a center.
