Their is something about having a book completely belonging to you. You appreciate it more, give it value and respect. With this in mind, I would like my 9th grade students to have their own copy of To Kill a Mockingbird, one of the first novels we read during their year. One of the benefits of having a copy per student is the personal annotating and note-taking--students won't have to worry about the work of other students conflicting with their own. Another benefit is that they will be able to take this book home and refer to it as they progress both their education and personal library.
