Students love stories. Even the classrooms that can be the most challenging to teach are captivated by the power stories provide. This is true for students of all ages. I frequently teach students skills for becoming better learners, skills for navigating their social/emotional development, and future oriented skills (even at young ages) to help students connect school to success. This project will help me enrich the social/emotional development that I provide to students by giving them to chance to connect stories to their learning. Younger students often need to have skill exposure in multiple contexts in order transfer skills to real-world settings. By providing students with skill connections to literature, I feel they will better be able to think about and transfer learning of social/emotional skills in better ways than if they were not able to have this exposure (and grow a love of reading at the same time!).
