Students will be able to collaborate with their classmates easily, and effectively utilizing precious class time. When it is time to work, students have to move desks and take time to make that transition. I want to eliminate that need for transition with tables in the classroom. We are constantly including learning activities that encourage collaboration, however, our seating does not. Currently, students have individual desks and our desks need to be moved and shuffled around when we do a science lab or activity. It takes time away that students could be exploring, planning, and observing. We would like to use tables to facilitate collaborative science activities, creative math problem solving, and discussions around literature. Additionally, we have a monthly community outreach program, including senior citizens in the community, and tables would decrease safety concerns for our guests. Our rooms are small and with 24 individual desks, space is at a premium.
