I am teaching an astronomy class that is studying observation of the stars and how light behaves, since that is how we learn all we do from the stars. I am also teaching a class on lesser-known STEM figures, and our next unit in on a female astrophysicist, and understanding telescopes is a big part of understanding how she made her discoveries. In addition to all of that, I teach physics, and we are going to start our optics unit in a few weeks. The materials to help me teach optics will benefit students in three different classes to better understand the behavior of light and to learn about the stars. I am requesting telescope building kits to help my students understand how telescopes work, and for them to understand how lenses bend light to create a bigger image. I am also requesting an optical set to help students see how various lenses affect light. This will also extend to the effect the atmosphere has on light, and how orbiting telescopes don't have atmospheric interference.
