Currently I only have traditional seating and a couple of rugs for student seating. The laptop desks and seat cushions will allow students a comfortable alternative to just sitting on the hard floor. The pub style table and stools are another choice for those students who may need a higher seating choice or prefer to stand while working. The flexible seating options allow students to quickly and easily pair up or work in small groups. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Author Kayla Delzer says that giving students choices about their physical classroom space teaches them higher-order thinking skills. This is important for my sixth graders as they enter my writing classroom. I want to provide the most inviting space possible to help meet their needs.
