It is never too late to learn how to read! Although as students get older, it becomes more and more difficult to provide engaging strategies that are developmentally appropriate. With these resources, my reluctant readers will realize that there is a world of learning how to read beyond flash cards and elementary school pictures. Literacy games and manipulatives, like Twist & Turn word builders, Can Do reading games, and phonics interactive journals, will be used in small group instruction to teach students in learning how to read in interactive, age-appropriate and engaging approaches. These supports were carefully selected to ensure that they will be loved by my middle and high school students, as well as help engage these students in early reading instruction. My students will use these hands-on, fun and engaging tools in daily small group intensive intervention that is necessary to close their reading gap and improve grade-level classroom performance with general education peers. My students will thank you as they gain reading fluency, comprehension and confidence!
