I would like to incorporate project based learning activities with my class this year that incorporate real world problems with topics we cover in class. An example is “Sustainable Transportation Fuels.” Students will examine data regarding different fuel options and global needs to decide the best course of action to maximize alternative energy resources. The topic is broken down into different activities, which allow teachers to explore different chemistry concepts with their classes. I have been using interactive notebooks for years but our supplies are down to the bare minimum. The interactive notebooks are a great addition to project based learning. We need to tape and glue down concepts and diagrams that we cover in class. We will use the colored pencils, and markers to differentiate lessons, annotate, and draw solutions as students work in collaborative groups. The interactive notebook will also allow my students to keep everything in one place. In addition to topics we research and problems we try to solve, they will be able to store labs, activities, assignments, quizzes and work in one place.
