I am hoping for 2 sensory tables along with a bag of white sand. These tables will be placed in our Discovery Room where students in Kindergarten and First Grade will be able to use them. The sensory tables will add wonder, curiosity and discovery skills as student explore, play and socialize with peers. The tables can be used for a variety of sand and water activities. When filled with water, the tables will allow students to fish for letters, build icebergs for penguins out of ice cubes and Styrofoam and observe how fast they can maneuver their boat to the other side- will they need to redesign/rebuild?1 When filled with sand, the tables will allow students to dig for dinosaur bones like a paleontologist, create different sounds with beans and different containers, and use their math skills when filling up containers with corn in the fall. The activities are endless! The sensory table activities will promote social skills such as empathy, sharing, negotiating and compromising with peers. Students will also gain eye-hand coordination as the interact with the sand and/or water pouring, sifting and scooping. Students small muscle control will improve as children learn to manipulate accessories added to the tables. Through it all, student will also strengthen their math, science, language and engineering skills.
