The use of manipulatives is a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using the math centers, go to different centers to work on different math strategies. The manipulatives will give the students something tangible to count instead of using their fingers. The different choices will allow the students to give each one a place value (ones, tens, hundreds, and thousand). The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. They also allow students to see the relationship between multiplying and dividing; subtracting and addition. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and the whiteboards slowly become stained from frequent use. By donating to this project, you will not only give students a chance to learn math but for them to see math. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether they have the necessary materials to complete the assignment. Plus in this world, every interaction has some form of math involved.
