The past was a time of traditional rows of metal desks facing the front of the classroom. Today’s classroom environment is flexible, collaborative, and engaging. It’s differentiated, focused, and fun for students. Flexible seating is a wonderful, wonderful thing. It allows students to move around the classroom to work and communicate openly and collaboratively while fostering creativity and critical thinking skills. Students who have learning disabilities struggle with sitting in a hard desk all day. When they come to RSP for help with their academics, having a different option will keep their mind on what they are learning instead of what they are sitting on. Wobble chairs, sensory chair pads, stretchy bands, and balance balls give students with ADHD, Autism, and other learning disabilities the sensory stimulation they need. Students can move around without disrupting other students. Having these items in my RSP class will give my students the boost they need to succeed!
