At our school, we strive to utilize materials that are strategic and engaging for our students. As the Reading Specialist, it is my job to coach teachers and provide meaningful materials that they can utilize within their classroom. It is also my job to play the role of an interventionist and help our struggling readers. I have found that utilizing materials that bring joy to reading helps to keep students focused and promotes their ability to become a life-long learner. Providing students with things on my list such as books, fun games, and exciting materials, has shown that even students with very little motivation will take time to read. Motivation leads to reading, reading leads to learning!
