Many 6th graders struggle with focusing, but this issue can be made worse by distractions in the classroom. Having a large array of reading levels and abilities in one classroom can further add to the attention issue most students face. When students have music, they are not only better focused but more likely to remain on task for extended periods of time. The noise can drown out the miscellaneous sounds of the classroom that might otherwise cause constant distractions. Individual music players could also motivate students and encourage independent reading and work time. I would love to give my students the opportunity to focus on and better their reading skills and stamina.
