The Mathematical Library of Connections will provide my students the opportunity to read literature related to math topics they are studying. For example, the Sir Cumference series of books will help students build an understanding of area, perimeter, rounding and geometry through these real world literature adventures. Whole group read alouds and independent reading will increase students abilities to engage in math discourse while also providing the opportunity to enhance math journal written responses. Bringing literature to life in math class will create a new perspective for students as they will be able to apply their learning more concretely to their life experiences. These stories will provide for collaborative student groups to dive deeper into math concepts in a fun way. They will also help individuals find new ways to appreciate their learning in math class. With an increased focus on math literature students will see beyond the times tables and word problems and have fun as they truly build mathematical connections through literature.
