Reducing the impact of environmental stressors will free up more capacity for learning. Softening the lights, reducing the noise, and offering flexible seating options will support this, as well as increase students’ overall comfort in their classroom. For the students who need to move, wobble stools and exercise balls will help them focus on learning while getting the stimulation they need. Children who are distracted or uncomfortable with ambient noise can wear noise blocking headphones. For the kids who crave touch or pressure, or who want to join their friends on the rug but have reduced core strength, there are comfy seats for the floor. And to create an overall calmer environment in the room, I’d like to use fluorescent light filters.
