Our world is becoming more and more focused on technology, yet students aren't exposed to coding and other computer science concepts until late middle school to high school. I would like to expose my 5th grade students to the world of coding by using the Piper Computer Kits in my maker space class. The Piper Computer Kits will expose my students to the world of computer science by teaching them basic coding skills to solve problems. They will be able to work with a partner through challenges that require out of the box thinking. These kits are perfect for my maker space class because they first have to work together to build the computer, then use the computer to solve various problems. It's all about collaboration, creative thinking and problem solving, skills all students need to successful. I feel that by using the Piper Computer Kits, my students will have a good foundation of skills they will need to be successful in future academic courses.
