With a growing middle school, our school and district cannot support the needs of the classroom. Four out of six of my classes use computers for an intervention program called IXL. This was implemented in a study hall course for every 6-8th grader at our school in order to provide extra support to get their math and reading skills up to grade level as set by the state. The laptop I was issued through the school is very old, needs to be plugged in, and can not often play newer instructional videos because the processor is too old nor will it allow me to display anything through the projector. This makes assisting my students who do 100% of their work online very challenging. Having a HP Envy laptop that is able to go around the room and act as a tablet will give me endless mobility throughout the classroom to help my students. It is also the same type of computer as the HP laptops my students use so I will be able to show them the exact steps and format they need unlike our two different brands of computers now. The HP Envy also has the ability to be linked to a pen which will allow me to work with my students as if using paper and pencil, but in a much more technology advanced and engaging way. Lastly, I would like to use it with some of my students who are who are learning English as a second language and students who receive special education services to provide more hands on activities where the can move an manipulate things on the computer to help them better understand the topic.
