The multicultural books requested will be used for small group reading. These award winning and highly rated texts will serve a variety of benefits for my students for years to come. These sets of books will allow me to work with small groups of students and also allow students to explore texts together. The students who need additional support will still be exposed to beautifully written relevant grade level text. Students who are reading at level or above will also benefit from exposure to Paublo Neruda's story and poetry and a celebration of Hip Hop through poetry. As I plan for a more diverse and complete literacy program, I am confident that these texts will help achieve this goal. Additionally, these books will help students realize some of the contributions people in their ethnic group have made to our country. Study after study shows that children of all colors need to be exposed to and taught about the achievements of their culture. Too often negative stereotypes are presented in mainstream media. These books will help me to build a literacy program and library that serves and inspires all of my students.
