Many of my 3rd graders are active. Studies show that flexible seating and the use of bouncy bands help increase students' learning and attention. Many of my students will really benefit from the bouncy bands by getting their wiggles out during sustained reading time or testing. Bouncy bands allow them to feel comfortable throughout the day, especially on days when the weather keeps us inside for recess. Along with the bouncy bands helping keep the students on task, new sets of leveled readers would be most appreciated as I have a wide variety of levels within my 45 students, ranging from Kindergarten to 5th grade. My 3rd graders have a few leveled readers, but building a library of them can take a while. Individual white boards with markers would also be of help when doing word studies and writing. White boards are versatile and give the students a different opportunity to show their thinking.
