The tournament chess sets that I am requesting will help my students begin to see their moves even before they make them, literally on the chessboard, and then transfer those skills into their lives. Chess teaches students to focus on what they are doing within the context of those around them. It helps them infer with greater success. These are valuable skills that many of our students are not taught on a regular basis. Learning chess will also help them learn how to strategize, make a move, and reap the benefits..... or the consequences.... in a competitive setting. I believe many of my students will see a change in their behavior for the better, they will feel accomplished as they navigate a challenging game, and they will gain the mental strength & discipline it takes to become a better player over time.
