The Fire Tablets would be an amazing tool for motivating students to read more and display their writing for parents to see. Our daily schedule includes a 40-60 minute time frame (2 times per day) where students are working in various learning stations. Each station includes a different type of reading. For examples students read big books, they work on various reading skills on Chromebooks, they read their library books with a partner, and they listen to miscellaneous books on a stereo using headphones. During this time I pull students to our teacher table and work on various skills students may be struggling with. Throughout the year students become weary of reading the same books in our classroom over and over again. If the Fire Tablets were donated to us that would open up an entirely new library of book choices for students. These tablets would also support reading habits for future reading as technology becomes more and more prevalent in our society. Struggling readers in our class have shown me they are more willing to put forth effort towards reading when there is technology involved. In addition to supporting reading skills, the Fire Tablets would also encourage good writing habits. There are several apps and programs that can be added to the tablets for the purpose of displaying student writing for parents to view. For instance, one very useful program is called SeeSaw. It is an app that can be added to the Fire Tablets and used to post their writing for parents to read. They can also receive lessons and perform activities on SeeSaw. I have researched the use of this technology and our classroom and I truly believe it will make all the difference. However, I need your help in providing this to our students. Thank you!
