We are getting ready to welcome our middle schoolers back to the school building in a few weeks. When they return, they will have home days and in-school days. Despite the fact that they will be in two different places, they will be taking part in the same class, interacting with their teachers and classmates at the same time. Two people cannot be in a virtual meeting while in the same room without a personal headset. The feedback makes it impossible to focus on the conversation you're having. Teachers in other districts with students already back in the classroom have had issues with classroom noise when trying to have their students participate in small groups during hybrid instruction. In order to fix this issue, students need to use headphones with a microphone. Many students are currently facing economic hardships and may struggle to purchase the additional school supplies necessary to make hybrid instruction work. They will also be managing two different workplaces. When they are in the classroom, I would like to provide each student with headphones they can use to communicate with their classmates at home. This will help to develop our class community. It will also make small group instruction possible and collaborative projects.
