I have selected 'Doll Bones' and 'A Long Way from Chicago'; Newbery Award Medal books, for students to read and discuss in their reading group. Upon completing reading these books, students will write about the characteristics of each book that make each worthy of the the Newbery Award. Students will also compare and contrast experiences of characters in each book, citing evidence from the books to substantiate claims. Accelerated third grade students at our school are asking for new books to read as they have read the novel units at our school. 'The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict', and Sister Grimm, titles requested by students will challenge their current instructional level and are developmentally appropriate. We appreciate your generous support engaging students in learning!
