These small kitchen appliances and cookware including a stand-up mixer, chopping knives, sets of mixing bowls, a set of pans, and bakeware will help enhance our students' experience in the world of cooking and healthy eating, while gaining independence out in the real world when they graduate from high school. In our kitchen, most of our existing equipment is out of date and/or needs to be replaced. When it comes to health, it is important for students to be aware of safety tips while working with these utensils/bakeware and/or appliances. This is a critical element of our transition services preparing our deaf and hard of hearing students for work, postsecondary education, and/or living independently. This cooking class is taught by instructors who use American Sign Language; and believe in empowering our students to run their cooking program on their own by delegating each member specific leadership roles like chef, cleaning dishes, setting up the table, and cutting/preparing vegetables and fruits.
