Being apart of a NYC school gives the students many opportunities to do things they would usually not do at home. One of the struggles we have is collecting materials for our science center involving nature for our Units of Study. We are seen taking the children for a nature walk around the neighborhood often. As we walk we look for materials to collect for our science center. We are limiting to collecting sticks, leaves and pebbles. Having the opportunity to provide more materials the children can explore will enhance their learning in all our Units of Study. Most of my students don't get the chance to go beyond their neighborhood so our Science center materials will give them the opportunity to explore nature!! Many of the materials I have requested are for many different purposes in our Pre-k Units of Study. We will use the magnifying glasses to explore materials closely. Many of the rocks and shells will be used for sorting and comparing to rocks found in our neighborhood. The test tubes will be used during our plant unit. The LED light pad and shapes will be used to explore how we use light and why it is important to us. Thank you for giving us a better chance to explore nature!
