Students are definitely more engaged in learning when they are having fun! This assortment of games will allow me to address a variety of higher order thinking skills for my middle school students while taking part in the thrill of gameplay. Reading comprehension is an area of difficulty for many students and these games will make it fun to work on skills rather than reading printable passages. Students will also be able to apply a variety of pragmatic language strategies working with peers, turn-taking, and following directions while also learning how to form inferences, predictions, learn vocabulary and make connections with cause and effect. The skills learned while playing these games in therapy will generalize and translate to when students have to read informational passages in school and the outside world.
