Many of our students come from low income households where they can't afford even basic supplies. Most of the parents can't afford to stay home when their kids are sick, so they get sent to school sick. Many of them also struggle with social skills, like basic hygiene and hand washing. We spend a lot of time cleaning our class and making sure that the germs that are brought to school don't make anyone else sick. Every day we spend a great deal of time just making sure our kids have the basic supplies they need, pencils, pens, paper, and erasers. We are requesting simple supplies to keep our kids healthy, such as kleenex, hand sanitizer, and antibiotic cleaning wipes. We also need spiral notebooks for our students to keep track of assignments in class and have something to keep in class for their assignments. Almost all of our assignments are written on our white board, so we go through a lot of expo markers as well.
