To purchase important equipment (Vernier probes and distillation set) that will enhance the development of student research projects. A limitation of resources is always a stumbling block to the types of research projects students are able to develop. We have some Vernier LabQuests and probes within the science department. The addition of the probes and sensors would expand the options available to student researchers. The addition of the EKG, Blood Pressure and Heart Rate Sensors would enhance the quality of quantitative physiological research projects students can develop - especially since we have many students interested in pursuing careers in the medical field. Currently we have a standard sphygmomanometer, but no other quantitative devices to enable students to accurately measure physiological response to factors like exercise, stress, sleep, etc. The pH probes and Ammonium Ion Selective electrode would be extremely useful to students pursuing projects in chemistry/applied chemistry, environmental science and environmental management projects - for which we typically depend on test kits - which are only semi-quantitative. Our previous set of distillation glassware is in severe disrepair, with broken parts/missing components and this would replace it - and would allow students to again perform distillations as needed for their projects.
