Knots for Motts is a service-based project for middle school students to cut and tie fleece blankets for pediatric cancer patients receiving treatment at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. Fleece blankets are one of the top items on the hospital's wish list.School scissors are not sharp enough to cut the fleece and Fiskars scissors would make cutting a breeze. Each patient selects a fleece blanket to provide them warmth and comfort during their stay and after. This project gives my students an opportunity to make something as basic as a blanket meaningful. Often times students are making blankets for a kid who might be their age, or the age of another family member or relative. That's when they really figure out the significance of their gestures.
