During the school day, many students have emotional breakdowns. Often they are struggling to know why. We may have students who are frustrated and angry and do not know how to handle or express what they are feeling. The calming pillows will give each child their own opportunity to calm down so that they will be able to focus on instruction during the day. The pillows will be available upon request as needed by the students as well as rest time, arrival and departure of class. This will encourage a visual strategy social emotional aid. Students will be able to use their senses in hopes to calm down holding pillows along with breathing exercises. Children will be able to see, smell and touch the pillows which will also be used in collaboration of Second Steps Social Emotional daily lessons.
