My desire is to help my students explore the world of human and plant cells, in addition to investigating what lives in water and the different stages of water purification. To unlock the mysteries of our world, students need the opportunity to use a microscope, but also to have materials supporting their learning while using that microscope. I already have some pre-mounted slides that were donated by a retired teacher, but I need the students to be able to use the slides for our cell exploration module. We will not only be learning how to operate a microscope, but to use the microscope in a variety of ways - viewing Petri dishes with collected stream water, preparing slides with their own cheek cells, viewing differences between plants/plant cells, and looking at specimens collected from our own surrounding ecosystem. The microscope and kits from Carolina Biological and Frey Scientific will help me to achieve those goals.
