Our classroom is in need of supplies to allow students to stay engaged in their learning outside paper and pencil lessons. These tools are staples in many classrooms at my school, however, being a new teacher, I am often choosing to fund items higher on the priority list! (ie, classroom library, alternative seating, pencils, glue sticks, etc...) No one likes to sit in the same seat for hours on end. Lap desks allow students to take a break from their uncomfortable plastic chairs and find a place on the floor to stretch out and tune into classwork. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
