Our Title 1 Elementary School prevailed without elementary music instruction for over twelve years. Since the reinstallation of music instruction, we have sought to rebuild our music program by establishing a strong music curriculum, facilitating performance opportunities, developing extracurricular experiences, and uniting our low-income community through public performances. Our upcoming performance of Disney's Aladdin Jr. will be our first large-scale production and a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of our scholars. As we enter a "A Whole New World" of musical theatre and performance caliber, we are in need of production costumes for our hard-working cast. These costumes will not only give students the confidence to perform to the best of their ability, but will aid in inspiring and unifying our community. Many of our scholars and community members have limited musical theatre experiences. Very few students will ever have the opportunity to attend a professional production in their adolescence. For many performers and audience members, our production of Disney's Aladdin Jr. will be one of the only musicals they have the opportunity to experience. It is my hope that by facilitating a production with costumes, I will not only expose my students to a new level of performance standards, but will unite our diverse community through the power of music, cultivating a greater appreciation for our community and the performing arts.
