The chair, lamps, mindful booklet, diffuser, and oils will offer a calm place for students to go to when their brains aren't working the way they would like for them to be. The chair will be used for the children to sit on and relax. The lamps will create a soft lighting environment for relaxation and mindful strategies. The oils and diffuser will also create a calming method for the students when using breathing techniques. The mindfulness activity booklet will allow students different choices in which strategy, technique, or method they use when going to the "calm corner." Many times, students just need to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the school day and gather their thoughts. Often, in an urban district, the only time students get to do this is at school. My desire is to create a classroom environment that allows each student to experience a calm, peaceful, and relaxing space with these items. The goal is for them to breathe, use calming tools, and feel a sense of calm when they need it the most. Students practicing mindfulness and using the calming corner will be able to better focus on their academics, which will then lead them to success!
