Using whiteboards in the classroom has had many beneficial and engaging results. The use of whiteboards can be represented in all subjects but especially Math and Literacy in the 1st grade level. In mathematics we break up into four small group rotations. Having these white boards at the station called "Math with Teacher" is a great way for me to see students progress and/or where they are struggling as they work. Having small group rotations allow me to see how my students are grasping on to the material. In literacy we also split up into small group rotations. Students use these white boards to practice writing their spelling words. They are able to write their words, say them to a friend, and erase and keep going. These whiteboards can be included in other subjects aside from just mathematics and literacy. There are lots of things that I can do as a teacher when using whiteboards. I think that having whiteboards is an awesome tool to have in this age level. They get excited. It gives them responsibility and makes learning fun for them and their peers. Being able to break into small groups and watch my students work is a wonderful way for me to have that one on one time that may be necessary. This is a great tool for us as a classroom!
