I will use these books in class in small reading groups of four students each. They will read sections of the book once per week and keep a reading journal to help them think, reflect and discuss with their classmates ways to support their own social-emotional health. With all of the pressures on today's teens with the political climate of our country, technology, social media and now a pandemic, when our children return to school, they will need a safe place to think, reflect and discuss their own SEL needs. Too often, social-emotional learning is left out of high school curriculums. I want to incorporate SEL to off set teen depression, anxiety, cyberbullying and suicide. And actual books are great so they can feel all the good stuff in their hands, and not just text on a screen.
