The DevTech team from Tufts University and MIT have researched the connection between learning to code and Early Literacy. Bi-lingual students (like ours) especially benefit from learning to code. MIT Kindergarten- LIfelong Media Lab developed the scratchjr coding program for students to make the understanding of computer science (coding) understandable at their level. The easiest way for our youngest students to use technology is by using a touch screen. It is so important to use whatever means possible to support literacy as early as possible, and as engagingly as possible. iPads not only support the scratchjr program, but allow coding to be learned in the students' native language.
