My students are hooked on screens. When they have the opportunity for free time they prefer to watch YouTube. I know that watching videos can be relaxing, but I believe they can find joy in other leisure activities if they can learn to access these activities on their own. I would love to help my students learn how to participate in leisure activities independently. Listening to CD's with their own CD player will definitely intrigue my students. Looking at large coffee table books with beautiful pictures will engage them in printed material. Making art however they want to with materials curated to their own ability levels will encourage them to be creative on their own terms. I want them to look beyond YouTube, engage with their classmates, and find fulfillment in the world around them.
