Students will read 12 chapters from the novels, The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater or Wild Bird by Wendelin Van Draanen in peer literature circles (PLC). After reading, students will assume a leadership role to conduct in the PLC meeting. There are 5 leadership roles such as: Wordsmith, Discussion Director, Research Fact Finder, Artful Artist, or Character Captain. Within their roles they will create quick multimodal projects to share with the group on Friday during their PLC meeting. After each student has shared their project. They will discuss the chapters and record what they learned. Then they will submit their attendance sheets. They will receive a new role of leadership, meet in a group and read the next 12 chapters for the next PLC meeting. Rinse and repeat. Academically, they are applying their grammar and wrtiting skills organizing their thoughts and completing their role sheets. They use technology as a way to deliver their message/understanding. And they practice socials skills by meeting and discussing the messages of the authors.
