I requested stools, headphones and a tent to revamp the fluency center that I already have. I have a tents that is being held together by duct tape but it has been in my classroom for 4 years and has served us well. My scholars love going inside the tent and playing with their flashcards. The stools are needed for my scholar when they are doing small group fluency practice which allow them to be in a small circle without sitting on the cold floor. My kiddos favorite time of the day is when we have labs. I love doing hands on activities with my scholars. In the past, we have done the Mentos and Coke experiment, built volcanoes, designed paper airplanes, the list goes on and on. The one lab that always get my scholars excited about learning the upcoming unit that deals with the food chain is the Owl pellet lab. I have been purchasing owl pellets for the past 3 years. My first year the pellets were in the kit. I did not know at the time that they would not be replaced yearly. Since my school can't refill the science kits, and I have double the students this year, the cost is out of reach for me. I believe this is one of those labs that kids will remember years later. It also get them interested in the food chain (our next science unit) and the role of consumers, producers, and decomposers. By having this project funded this lab could spark the young scientist in my scholars and unlock their potential.
