The arts prepare children with the skills they will need to become successful, well-rounded, creative problem solvers. Employers want imaginative, creative employees. Today's students are tomorrow's workforce. Test studies show students with art exposure score higher on college entry exams. Art education allows students to think outside the box. The arts also teaches diligence and patience. Employers also want employees that can work together. This project is collaborative. It will allow the students to work together and learn from each other to create their art. In this project, students will create designs on plastic plates with Sharpie markers. The students will use heat tools, cutting boards and wooden spoons to melt the plates into shapes similar to Chihuly glass sculptures. As they learn about the artist, students will develop cultural awareness and ideas of the aptitude and struggles of people with disabilities. This project will help develop twenty-first century work skills.
