The test strips will be enable my students to observe dissolved chemicals in their culture water. Knowing rough concentrations of dissolved chemicals will raise red flags when these are outside the permissible range. The students will be able to correct dangerous chemical concentrations before they cause problems to their crop. The UV light will disinfect the water to avoid diseases from running rampant and affecting (possibly even killing) the students' crops. The heaters will maintain the water temperatures at optimum levels to maximize growth during the colder winter months. These are essential processes of recirculating aquaculture, however, due to the low cost and disposable nature of these products, my school district cannot use state funds to purchase them.
