Building vocabulary grows reading ability as well. Games are a "sneaky" way to incorporate word work outside of memorization and weekly quizzes. Adding competition raises the level of involvement and engagement. Reluctant readers are more likely to read when they have choice in their book selection. By providing a variety of reading materials to my diverse group of students, everyone will be able to find something they can become excited about. The classroom culture in my room can grow around student conversations that are created through this excitement. Students can look forward to reading the titles they have selected and it can allow me to foster a more positive reading atmosphere. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
