Our school is small & rural. There are approximately 430 students in grades Pre K-5, with approximately 70% receiving free or reduced lunch and riding buses to school. The local diet, due largely to reduced economic status, consists heavily of fried food, processed cheap snacks, sugary sodas and artificially flavored "juice" drinks. Not surprisingly, many of our students are overweight & unfit. I feel that we can "arm" our girls with the ammunition of knowing what healthy food choices to make & the affect that eating well has on our bodies, and most importantly the affect that physical fitness has on our bodies, minds and souls.
