Adding these chromebooks to my classroom will provide my students with opportunities to research and create challenging projects . For example, my students will be completing a project where they have to create a book featuring figurative language in popular culture. The students will be asked to select six figurative language terms, define each term, and provide an example of the term as it is used in popular culture. They will learn how to copy and paste their definitions into a Word document and how to download their popular culture examples, and insert them into their documents. They will learn word processing, how to use the tools on the computers, and desktop publishing skills. The chromebooks selected are essential to this project. My students will also learn how to create a Prezi in social studies featuring a state of their choice. This social studies project combines research skills, computer skills and will challenge students to use their creativity. Perhaps the most profound and beneficial way these chromebooks will be used is to provide online practice for students to increase reading comprehension and fluency. I utilize sites which provide high quality reading passages that include text based activities, comprehension questions and vocabulary emphasis. These chromebooks will be invaluable assets to my students who struggle in reading. Students receive immediate feedback in many programs which is so good for them!
