There are some students who come into the school library and have given up the hope of ever finding a book that they will enjoy. Many of them are struggling and reluctant readers in middle grades. They see other students reading books with a thousand pages, like Harry Potter, and the humiliation of having to pick up picture books or primary chapter books has caused them to just give up on reading. These students LOVE graphic novels. Graphic novels are cool! They have contemporary artwork and fewer words on a page. Students gain confidence when they are able to finish a book, and thus begins their love of reading.
