My students live and go to school in a low-income area of California. Our school is about 44% Hispanic/Latino and over half of the families qualify for free or reduced meals. The school contains kindergarten through sixth grade classrooms, as well as, a before and after school program. Due to the increasing amount of gangs and crime in the city, our elementary school has video surveillance cameras outside the building. Although my students live and go to school in an area where some might not feel comfortable walking around at night, their needs are the same as any other student across the world. They love to learn and form questions; and deserve the chance to explore those ideas.
