I teach pre-k, the foundation grade, in a Title One school in an urban and under represented district in New York. My students come to school with challenges that many adults might find difficult. However, despite this, they arrive every day at school happy and bright and eager to learn. Unfortunately, given the current trend of high stakes testing, most of our limited resources go towards the testing grades with little left over for early childhood, much less pre-k.
